Parking can be tough, especially when you’re trying to parallel park or fit into tight spaces. Luckily for you, BMW has implemented a host of parking technologies that will make your next parking job as simple as possible. Active and Auto Park Distance Control supports you and your vehicle, safely maneuvering in your surroundings, when trying to park among obstacles. Learn more below about this impressive technology, and how it works for you, from the team at Edmonton BMW!
What Does Active and Auto Park Distance Control Do?
The PDC (Park Distance Control) system uses ultrasonic sensors on both the front and rear bumpers to locate obstacles around your vehicle, then alert you when these impediments clash with your parking trajectory. When operating at walking speed or slower, the vehicle will tell you when you come close to any objects in your way. As great as this technology is, it’s not a replacement for your parking skills, meaning you still have to pay attention to your surroundings. Use the Auto Park Distance Control tech as an aid, not a substitute, for parking.
BMW Active and Auto Park Distance Control Activation Steps
To start the system when you think you’ve found a spot, all you have to do is press the Park Assistant button. PDC will also engage when you have the vehicle in reverse while the engine’s running. An exterior parking camera display will illuminate your screen, and a green button will be lit, so you’ll know it’s engaged. Dependent on your system, you can turn on Automatic Park Distance Control, which activates when you approach an obstacle, and, when backing up the emergency braking system will trigger when near an obstacle as well. Both systems, where applicable, can be activated through the parking and maneuvering menu. This ensures these settings for the current driver profile.
