BMW Auto Start Stop turns off the engine of your BMW vehicle when stopped or at low speeds to save fuel. This means that you’ll be saving fuel everywhere from traffic lights to crossings to traffic jams—finally, a positive that comes with being stuck in traffic! By turning off the engine whenever possible, not only are you lowering your vehicle’s impact on the environment, but reducing your stops at the gas station! Read on to find out how this BMW Auto Start Stop technology works and how you can control it, from our informed team at Edmonton BMW!
How Does BMW Auto Start Stop Work?
Auto Start Stop doesn’t apply every time so you won’t have to worry about your engine shutting off when you may need it most. It only stops fully in specific situations that meets its criteria. Times where it won’t activate include situations like the possibility of a quick takeoff or if the engine has not reached its operating temperature. BMW Auto Start Stop works by turning off the engine, then turning it back on when applicable to move on, saving gas and reducing emissions.
How to Activate and Turn off BMW Auto Start Stop
The BMW Start Stop symbol will only activate and trigger its functionality, when your transmission is in drive, seat belt is buckled, driver door closed and, of course, when your foot is pressed on the brake pedal. You’ll see directly in your dash when this system is in action, with a digital needle pointer that reacts when in use, and a “Ready” symbol that gives the green light for springing back into action and starting the engine in just one second. If you don’t want to use this functionality, you can easily turn it off by its button, located next to the Engine Start button.
