Wouldn’t it be great if you could get in your vehicle, press a button and just let your vehicle do all the tricky and tedious maneuvering to get you out of a parking spot? Dream no longer, as the Park Assistant in your BMW can do exactly that, taking over the vehicle’s controls and steering to orient you out of your space. That means next time you’re in one of those tight spaces that require a ton of forwarding, reversing and slight steering wheel adjustments, the BMW system will do it all for you. How is this possible? Follow along below as we at Edmonton BMW guide you through this exciting modern BMW technology.
How to Automatically Leave Your Parking Spot
It’s simple to activate the Automatic Parking Spot Departure system and get yourself out of your space safely and efficiently. Just follow these steps:
- Start your BMW with the Start/Stop button
- Press the Park Assistant button, or engage the reverse gear to switch on the Park Assistant menu
- Activate Park Assist in the top right corner of the menu screen
- Click the direction you want to leave from the parking spot
- While the vehicle makes its moves, keep an eye out for obstacles, intervening with brakes or steering where needed.
How Does Automatic Parking Spot Departure Work?
The system calculates the best line to take out of the spot, while taking over the controls for steering, accelerating, braking and changing gears. While the system doesn’t completely drive you out of the parking space, it does put you in a spot where you can pull out without any other steering maneuvers needed. After that, do your usual checking for any traffic, then drive out of the spot with ease, back onto the road, all thanks to Automatic Parking Spot Departure.
