BMW Spotlight on ConnectedDrive

By Danielle Champagne | Posted in Car Stuff on Friday, October 20th, 2017 at 9:38 PM

BMW has always been a leader in technology; always striving to create something innovative, always pushing towards the future. BMW vehicles are engineered with intelligence in mind, embedded with the finest technology the industry has to offer. Today we’re going to look at an exclusive piece of technology from BMW – BMW’s ConnectedDrive.

What is it?

Powered by the iDrive system, BMW’s ConnectedDrive is designed to turn your vehicle into your own personal assistant. Essentially, BMW’s ConnectedDrive is a way for your vehicle to have access to the wonders of the internet via a connection through your smartphone. By doing so, your BMW vehicle gains access to a variety of apps and services which are designed to make your ride comfortable and perfectly customizable. These apps and services are available through a 7-inch touchscreen, which can also be accessed through the buttons on your steering wheel.

What Does it Do?

By connecting directly to your phone through a USB port or Bluetooth connection, ConnectedDrive is able to take the everyday functionality of your smartphone and implement it into the central 7-inch hub of your BMW vehicle. Think about the versatility you’re offered through your phone with music, navigation, and basic applications that make your life better.ConnectedDrive implements these into your daily commute.  Applications such as AppleCarplay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, and Spotify can be used to configure the perfect soundtrack, while others let you find local attractions, nearby gas stations, restaurants, among a variety of other helpful resources as well.

ConnectedDrive also has features like BMW’s 24/7 Concierge Service, Remote Service that lets you lock and start your vehicle, control the temperature of your vehicle, and much more. BMW ConnectedDrive also offers Intelligent Emergency Call, which assists you in case of a car accident or an unlikely breakdown. 5 Common Car Questions You’re Afraid to Ask

By Danielle Champagne | Posted in Car Stuff, How-To on Friday, October 13th, 2017 at 10:13 PM

Edmonton BMW is a proud local spokesperson for the BMW lifestyle. We hold the value of our product high and our customer relations even higher. Our dealership offers the most knowledgeable staff around and are at your service every step of the way. This includes answering any questions you may have, no matter what they may be.

Here are 5 Common Car Questions You’re Afraid to Ask.

#5 Why Do Signal Lights Blink Faster When They Burn Out?

When the signal light burns out, the bulb’s voltage decreases. This allows the circuit to have an easier workload, which makes the light blink faster. This functions as both a reminder of how interesting science is as well as a reminder to fix your signal light.

#4 What’s the Difference Between a Turbocharger and a Supercharger?

Both the Supercharger and the Turbocharger engines are designed using compressed air systems that burn fuel faster, giving you access to more power. By connecting directly to the engine using a compression pump, the Supercharger offers more consistent power . However, this means that your engine will get less power at lower RPMs. The Turbocharged engine works by using the gas from your exhaust to generate its power, allowing it to compress faster without having your RPMs redlined. But without a direct connect, you’ll experience the “turbo” lag that comes with it.

#3 How Often Should I Check My Tire Pressure?

According to your owner’s manual, you should check your tire pressure as often as you put gas in your car. We admit that does sound tedious and maybe a little overboard. It’s safe to check your tire pressure once a month. Keeping your tire pressure at the levels they need to be is a key component in maintaining your tire’s long-term health.

#2 When Should I Change my Transmission Fluid?

Experts say that you should change your transmission fluid approximately once every 50,000 km or 2 years, depending on which one comes first. The expert service staff at Edmonton BMW adhere to that notion, unless otherwise specified by BMW technicians.

#1 Premium or Regular Gas?

Premium gas does, in fact, help your engine perform at optimal levels. Premium fuel has a higher octane level than regular gas. A higher octane level gives you a faster compression ratio that increases performance output and fuel efficiency. The only downside, of course, is that premium gas is more expensive than regular.

Vehicle Spotlight on the BMW X6

By Danielle Champagne | Posted in X6 on Monday, September 18th, 2017 at 5:54 PM

BMW is one of the most respected brands in the world. It’s garnered this reputation through the creation of some of the most impressive vehicles on the road today. They’re a vehicle company that is continually expanding, and the X Series, one of the more recent innovations from BMW, is taking the industry by storm. It is a tangent away from the typical sports luxury sedan, into something bigger, bolder than BMW has ever created.

Let’s take a closer look at the BMW X6.

How’s it look?

The BMW X6 looks like a bulked up version of a BMW sedan. Take the iconic 5 Series, inject it with steroids, and you get the X6. It still offers the same level of elegance expected out of a BMW vehicle, but with a different take on the style. It’s more capable in design, with a much wider stance than your traditional Beamer. It still features the famous BMW double-kidney grill with the Roundel planted in the middle of the front face. On the inside, luxury covers every square inch of the X6’s design. It’s a vehicle designed to give you complete control, from the level of comfort your seat provides to your own custom soundtrack. The X6 looks like a work of art, both inside and out.

How’s it feel?

When seated inside of a BMW vehicle, you’re treated to a special ambiance not found anywhere else. From behind the wheel, you’ll gain instant confidence the moment you press your foot to the gas pedal. It has 445 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque and can go 0-100km/h in under 5 seconds. Seated elsewhere, you’re treated to a chauffeured ride with some of the most comfortable seating you’ll find anywhere.

What BMW Vehicle is Right for You This Fall?

By Danielle Champagne | Posted in X Series on Monday, September 11th, 2017 at 5:05 PM

Fall is swooping in on us fast, which can mean only one thing – winter is coming.

If you’re lucky, you spent the summer out on the lake or vacationing elsewhere. If you did end up staying in Edmonton, we hope you spent your time enjoying local festivities like Folk Fest, the Taste of Edmonton, or Heritage Days, which drew record numbers this year. Although it’s nice to look back on the events of summer, it’s important to head into the fall season prepared. It’s time to get serious about winter driving. You’ll need something with power and size, something that can handle a heavy barrage of snow and slippery roads. BMW offers a lot of options as to what vehicle to choose.

The question you must ask yourself is, what vehicle is right for you?

BMW offers a slate of bigger, bolder vehicles in the form of the X Series – the X1, X3, X4, X5, and X6. Each vehicle gets bigger as their number does, and with the increase in size comes an increase in capability. Each of the X Series has a unique look to them, while also still feeling like part of the same vehicle family. The X Series is a slate of Sports Activity Vehicles, which implies that no matter what the weather conditions are, they are vehicles that are meant to be driven.

So which X Series is the one for you?

That depends on what you want out of a vehicle. Do you require a more athletic design with highly competitive fuel economy? If that’s the case, you should stick to the X1 or the X3. If you want more interior space and something with a commanding stance, then the X5 or X6 may be the right vehicle for you.

No matter what vehicle you choose, one thing is certain: you’ll get a highly stylized, completely capable luxury vehicle that is unlike any other. With a BMW, you will get a vehicle that can be customized to fit your every need. No matter what X Series vehicle you choose, we can make sure it’s perfect for you.

By mmcbride | Posted in Countryman, MINI on Monday, August 14th, 2017 at 7:28 PM

MINI is a vehicle brand that has cultivated quite the reputation over the years. It has moved from a cult vehicle, made famous by its appearance in the 2003 film The Italian Job, into a fun, everyday car. Over the past decade, this rise in popularity has largely been due to MINI’s ability to expand and to provide a high-quality vehicle. THE MINI brand is one that offers a distinct experience, one that you can’t find anywhere else. Within this experience, there is versatility among the MINI models. The Countryman, for example, is the more rugged of the bunch. It’s still a MINI vehicle, just in its own way.

Here are 5 reasons to buy a MINI Countryman.

Design

MINI vehicles offer one of the most identifiable physiques in the entire automotive industry. The Countryman takes that familiar design and injects it with some muscle. It’s a bigger-bodied MINI with a wider stance that is built to accommodate, no matter where you want to take it. Its curves are tight and sinewy, so that while the Countryman is the bulkiest of the MINI bunch, it’s still lean. It reaches the same level of style that you’ve come to expect from a MINI, but it has some adventurous design aspects that allow it to stand out.

Interior

While being known for creating vehicles of the smaller variety, MINI doesn’t skimp on space. The seating offers lumbar support as well as memorized personal seating positions. It’s a vehicle designed to keep you comfortable, even in the most adventurous of journeys.

It’s lightweight body and genius engine design lead to a vehicle that is lightning quick, but also highly efficient.

Technology

MINI vehicles are some of the smartest on the road. They implement this intelligence in all aspects of the design. The use of technology within the 2017 Countryman’s interior is beyond what you’d expect out of a typical Sports Activity Vehicle. MINI Connected infotainment system is the core operating hub for the Countryman. Through it, you get access to a variety of phone apps as well as 3D navigation all through an 8.8 Touchscreen. The Countryman is backed by an impressive array of safety technology as well, ensuring that you not only have an enjoyable ride but a safe one.

3 Reasons Why BMW Vehicles Are Great For Winter

By jroach | Posted in Car Stuff, Winter, X Series on Tuesday, November 8th, 2016 at 4:48 PM

BMW has a reputation of being a purely luxury brand. They produce a modern day sportster, something you’d want to drive down Jasper Ave on a Friday night in the dead heat of the summer. Summer is just part of what you think about when it comes to BMW. The ideal image is a gorgeous BMW Z4 cruising down the road, turning heads wherever it goes. It’s an association that’s obvious. You’re driving a gorgeous ride, it’s only fitting that the weather cooperate, right?

Despite their incredible reputation, they aren’t historically known for being driven in winter. But I’m here to tell you that even though it’s not what BMW vehicles are known for, it doesn’t mean they aren’t capable. Quite the opposite, BMW vehicles are fully designed to be a driven in a variety of conditions. They are vehicles that are much more than their reputation. They are built to surprise.

With that, here are 3 Reasons why BMW vehicles are great for winter.

#3

Less Distraction

HeadUp

Through years of innovation, BMW has crafted a drive that is designed to improve your safety. They figured out that the best way to do that would be to ensure that your eyes stay glued to the road ahead as much as possible. That seems simple enough, just eliminate any and all distractions, right? But how do you create a vehicle that never distracts you but still produces an enjoyable drive. Honestly, there’s no way I’m making my daily commute without access to the radio or my phone. So the best way to do that is to implement that technology directly into the system. BMW took it a step further, even having your eyes not half to stray down to the speedometer. They’ve done so with BMW Head-Up Display, which displays particularly important information directly onto your windshield so you never have to look away, while also being able to absorb information when needed. A safer drive, particularly in winter, is always going to be a more enjoyable one.

#2

Smarter vehicles

Xdrive

It’s no secret that BMW vehicles are jam packed with the most intelligent technology around. We briefly mentioned a few things above, but BMW technology goes far beyond that. As a rule in the car industry, a smarter vehicle is generally considered a safer vehicle. BMW’s xDrive is a driving system that focuses on precision and improved handling, a trait that is priceless in a world of snow-covered roads, and icy patches. Not to mention BMW’s aerodynamic design, which prevents swaying in windy conditioning, giving you additional control in harsh environments. BMW also comes with a variety of active and passive safety features, features that feel futuristic in nature, like Night Vision, BMW Touch Command, and BMW Gesture Control.

#1

X Series

They offer all-wheel drive, and a design that is made to handle a variety of conditions. BMW takes all of their expert engineering, years of craftsmanship, and implements them into an all-terrain conquering, yet stylish vehicle. The X Series uses BMW technology to its advantage, as well as having performance that is built to tackle a snowy landscape. The X series are vehicles that are tailor made for Alberta driving.

Top restaurants to go to in your BMW

By jroach | Posted in Car Stuff, food, Just for fun on Monday, September 12th, 2016 at 9:42 PM

There’s nothing quite like cruising the city inside your brand new BMW vehicle. Taking the Beamer for a night on the town. What better thing to do then to hit up one of Edmonton great food and/or drink establishments. The service industry in Edmonton is one that is in the midst of a huge expansion. We have the market for it, and thus we’ve attracted some really great talent to Alberta’s capital city. The result; Edmonton is home to some of the best restaurants in the entire country, not the province, not territory, the country. Even if you don’t venture further than Jasper Ave or Whyte Ave, you have such a wide selection of fantastic local cuisine. You have any type of food you can imagine, Japanese, Korean BBQ, hipster western dinners (which there seem to be more of by the day), even entire restaurants dedicated to vegan or vegetarian delights.

So with that, here’s my pick for the top restaurants to go to in your BMW.

XIX –

19

XIX or Nineteen to you non-Roman Numeral types is a new restaurant in town, or newish at least. It offers a delicious menu, the type where your choices aren’t huge but you want to order everything on the menu. I won’t judge you if you do just that, even if you sit as a party of two.

The Marc –

marc

If you’ve got a thing for fine French inspired cuisine (who doesn’t), then this place is perfect for your date night. It’s got a menu to drool over. While not being your typical steak and potatoes restaurant, this place has some of the best steak and potatoes this writer has ever eaten. Watch for the daily specials, that’s where The Marc really shines.

Duchess –

duchess

A world renowned bakery that will not disappoint. Whether you’re looking for some Macarons, a nice Éclair, or a variety of delicious cakes, you’ll find none better than at Duchess. I’m a bit of a connoisseur of Banana cream pies (not to brag) and Duchess offers the best I’ve ever had.

North 53 –

north-53

A cool cocktail bar in the heart of the downtown core. This place is for those with elegant and eclectic tastes. It has some of the finest and most unique cocktails you’ll find locally while also providing you with the perfect complimentary food to go along with your beverage. It’s got a great atmosphere, and it’s the type of place you’ll want to take your 2016 BMW M5, though you’ll want to take a taxi or Uber home after a night spent here.

Remedy Café –

remedy

Remedy is simply an Edmonton institution. One of the coolest, most popular places in town, it’s no wonder, with great food, and great drinks. It’s the perfect place to wind down and grab a delicious coffee or one of their famous Chai beverages. It also offers great food, both in the meaty and veggie variety. Also, did I mention they serve booze?

Top 5 events that should be in the Olympics

By jtanguay | Posted in Fun Stuff, Just for fun, summer on Monday, August 15th, 2016 at 9:33 PM

The Olympics is in full swing. Michael Phelps has already won basically all the medals, and more importantly, and more impressive really, Katie Ledecky is the new face of Olympic swimming, setting multiple world records in only her second Olympic appearance. Usain Bolt just retained his title as the fastest man on the planet, and he did so with a smile. While running and swimming are certainly impressive, I wonder what other types of events could be incorporated if the Olympics decided to expand.

With that, here are the top 5 events that should be in the Olympics.

#5

Crocodile hunting –

Crocodile-Dundee-in-Los-Angeles-DI-2-1

Now, what this actually is… I don’t really know. I’ve always like the sound of a crocodile hunter, it’s to no one’s surprise that I’ve seen Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles more than a few times. I’d imagine this event is some amount of croc wrestling/capturing. Sure the Aussie’s have a leg up but oh well, the rest of the world can adapt.

#4

Professional Wrestling –

hustleLoyaltyRespect

Let’s be real. Olympic wrestling is great, but we can do better. I’ve always stated that every Olympic event would be better with a little pyro and some promo videos. A little showmanship can go a long way. Plus, who doesn’t want to see John Cena at the top of a podium, with his tiny “Hustle.Loyalty.Respect” towel hanging between his over large fingers.

3#

Tire changing –

Look, changing a tire isn’t the most difficult thing in the world, but doing it a record speeds, that’s something I could get behind. A few speed trials followed by a final heat of the best of the best seeing who tight those nuts fast. Move over synchronized diving.

#2

Hot dog eating contest –

Eventual winner Joey Chestnut is introduced before competing in Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York, U.S., July 4, 2016. REUTERS/Andrew Kelly - RTX2JP17

Frankly, it’s a travesty that this isn’t already an Olympic event. It’s a competition that already has some clout and a sizeable following, it’s international, and it’s a physical feat we all wish we could do. That checks all the boxes for me. Personally, I look forward to seeing Joey Chestnut on the podium as the Star Spangled Banner plays.

#1 –

eSports

11212121

Last but not least, and the most recent innovation in the world of sports. eSports have basically taken over the world. Whether it be CSGO, COD, DOTA, LOL, MTG, or Hearthstone (none of these acronyms I actually understand), the audience is there and it’s time we give these gamers the proper respect!
