BMW Gesture Control

BMW is continually offering new and innovative features to every BMW vehicle. BMW provides the latest feature called BMW gesture control, allowing drivers to control select iDrive functions using hand gestures captured by BMW's 3D camera. You can snow accept or decline a phone call, set navigation destinations, turn up or down the volume or change the angle in the 360-degree view of the vehicle. BMW gesture control technology is made to safely interact with the iDrive system while remaining focused behind the wheel in mind.

How Does BMW Gesture Control Work?

Gesture Control works with 3D technology, and BMW gesture control sensors come located along the roof lining of the car and next to the rear-view mirror. They translate a set of pre-defined hand gestures above the gearshift lever in front of the center console.

How To Use BMW Gesture Control?

BMW gesture control is straightforward once you master a small set of intuitive gestures, including:

  • Turning up the volume: Circle your finger clockwise
  • Turning down the volume: Rotate your finger counter-clockwise
  • Accepting a phone call or Confirming pop-up: Point one finger towards the iDrive screen and pull it back.
  • Rejecting a call or Closing pop-up: Swipe your hands to the right
  • Changing the 360-degree Rear View Camera angle: Pinch and drag to the left or right
  • Skip back: Move extended thumbs to the left
  • Skip forward: Move extended thumbs to the right
  • Two configurable gestures: Extend index and middle fingers, or extend five fingers, form a fist
