BMW iDrive 8 Offers Customizable Experience
With the new iDrive eight interfaces, the screen bends like a drawing of curved refined space, wrapped from the driver display with its various speedo and configurations out to the infotainment that takes up the right half. You can set up the interface to your liking, displaying whatever is most important to you and your driving preferences-allowing you to swipe right or left to access more customized screens of data laid out perfectly. While the display is almost two and a half feet wide, 12.3-inches of which is the instrument cluster the driver sees behind the steering wheel, and a hefty 14.9-inches of the infotainment off to the right. This new elegance will engage drivers and passengers alike on all future BMW vehicles.
To power all the infotainment, iDrive used BMW's new operating system 8, a new generation of displays, software, controls and extremely powerful connectivity and data processing. You first have to look through the steering wheel of the iDrive; the left half of the screen or the driver steering wheel screen, what would have been called an instrument cluster, can be configured in several ways, all using crisp new graphics. You can get speedo on the left, tach on the right, and NAV in between, allowing for customization all around. The gauges come shaped like boomerangs mounted vertically on either side of the driver's display.
